Interactive Distributed Guided Tours of Historical Sites
The Ozanne Project applied the above-mentioned method to a different context, i.e., virtual tours. Based on a virtual distributed environment, it allows the users to participate in guided virtual tours, or conferences-like working sessions. A human expert acts as the guide to all users. He or she uses various types of media to communicate with the tourists. The tourists communicate with one another through chat sessions. Tourists are autonomous in their walks through the 3D environment, but receive information from the human guide. He or she may suggest sights they should see, or place virtual guides with which users can interact. The guide senses the intentions and the objectives, and the tourists’ interests and provides pertinent information about the artifacts. Thus, the guide follows a dynamic scenario whose enfolding depends on the behavior of the visitor.
